A Trio of Spring 2011 Finales

Oh hey, Photoshop wasn’t even necessary this time.

I didn’t really blog these anime after the first few weeks — Dog Days, Hoshizora Kakaru e Hashi, and Astarotte no Omocha, to be specific — but I did loosely follow them over the course of the season. Loosely. Let’s see how they ended.

Dog Days

For an anime about dog people participating in mock warfare, you would half expect the final episode to feature some final battle to properly send off the story. That surely wasn’t the case in Dog Days. Actually, that wasn’t the case in the penultimate episode either. The “great struggle” actually occurred in episode 10-11. The rest of the series dealt with our middle school hero’s eventual return to reality and whether or not he’ll remember his dog days of spring.

Like Fry’s dog.

Why do I even find this remarkable? I dunno… isn’t it odd to end the series — even a shit series like this — on such a snore-inducing arc? Will he or won’t he remember the princess! Oh the puppy love! Don’t tell me the draw of the anime was the interpersonal relationships. I always thought what drew people in was the superior animation:

Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi

Kazuma chooses Ui. I don’t really care about that. Do you? I didn’t think so. I just think it’s funny that the anime fades out just before Kazuma and Ui could kiss each other.

When two people are actually in love, we cut away? When Kazuma tripped and his lips somehow managed to fall on Ui’s lips perfectly yet accidentally in the very first episode, we give it a slow motion treatment. Need a refresher?

Ignore the Inception gimmick. :D

Isn’t that hilarious? When the kiss wasn’t exactly consensual, we zoomed in.

Astarotte no Omocha

Okay, let’s get this clear: Astarotte is 10 and Naoya is 22 or 23 — I’m not certain but what does it really matter? He has a daughter who is 10. Yes, he impregnated a woman when he was 12. Who’s the lucky mother? Why, it’s Astarotte’s very own mother. Fans have been saying all season long that if you can just get past the icky premise, it’s a heart-warming show. Well, I’ll be! Let’s watch the climax of the series:

But I’m an asshole, obviously! Let’s see what other people thought of the anime instead.

But anyway, now Asuha’s half sister will soon be her step-mother XD

Dude, you’re so right — that’s so XD

A queen isn’t married to Naoya, so Lotte isn’t Naoya’s daughter.

That’s the only issue at hand here, obviously.

I am perfectly happy with Naoya and Lotte saying they love each other. It’s a cartoon, not real life.

Just like when we say lolicon instead of pedophile, it makes it okay. Or…

I loved this comic. Read the rest of it here.

Plus Asuha approves of Lotte and Naoya being in a relationship as seen in the previous ep.

As long as my ten year old daughter understands! Parent of the year!

Moral objections on quasi incest aside, he’s breaking the bro code :/

Ah, whatever.

How do you tell if a girl is too young to date? Divide your age by two then add some arbitrary number — I think seven.

        I don’t know why it’s a bro code. I don’t even know why it’s relevant. She’s fucking 10.

Oh, the endings are so heartwarming. I mean who needs character development and actual plot when they somehow, magically, end up with who you knew they would at the beginning, and it’s not satisfying in the slightest? I can feel my heart bursting at the seams with warm fuzzies.
