Hey, made it a whole month. I’m going to pause and reflect a bit. Feel free to move on if you’re only interested in anime itself.
(Pic attached has nothing to do with anything.)
Baby steps
Of course, I’ve done this before. I’ve come back for one season’s worth of anime before going on hiatus again, so I’m under no illusion that I’ve really accomplished anything. But baby steps, right? Gotta start somewhere. Hopefully, I make it through the season, then the six-month mark, one-year mark, so on and so forth. But to do that, I need to find shows that I want to talk about on a regular basis. And so far…
Bad timing
Unfortunately, I feel as though I jumped back in at a particularly bad season. None of the winter shows — at least the ones I have access too — are really that interesting to me. The best so far between Crunchyroll and Hidive is… Zenshu, maybe? Nothing too thought-provoking. No feelgood romance to follow either.
What’s my beef with Netflix? I simply don’t think it’s worth the price. I don’t wanna pay even the standard subscription for maybe one or two anime series a week. I know I’m not going to watch the non-anime stuff, because if I had time for them, I’d be reading or gaming instead.
(What am I reading right now? In the Kingdom of Ice. I finished The Wager recently, so I guess I’m on a kick about doomed sea voyages.)
Dusting off an old mental muscle
After all, my primary reading for blogging isn’t necessarily about anime. I’ve already been casually watching anime for over the year. I only wanted to write again. I mostly “write” mundane frontend code at work, so I got the urge to rework a mental muscle I haven’t exercised in quite some time. So the past month has mostly been about testing the water temperature, getting my feet wet, so on and so forth. Rediscovering what kind of voice I want to employ.
I also think I’ve settled into a decent cadence. Not posting every day is good. I limit myself to about two hours of watching or writing about anime a day. No more, no less.
I think that’s it for now. I might make this sort of meta posting a regular thing in order to pause and reflect a bit on how blogging again after all these years away is panning out.
