Making (tentative) plans for the Fall 2025 anime season

This is not an objective breakdown of the upcoming season by any means. I simply glanced at AniChart and went with my gut on a lot of these. Also, nothing is set in stone. If a show isn’t on Crunchyroll or HIDIVE, I’m probably not gonna watch it.

Shows I’ll definitely cover

  • SPYxFAMILY Season 3
  • Sanda

I loved the first season of SPYxFAMILY, and it still holds up on a rewatch. The second season is pretty good too, but you come to the realization that the story won’t make any real progress anytime soon. The episodes with Yor on the cruise ship were great, but I wasn’t too impressed with everything else that the second season had to offer. Wanna see Loid and Yor accept their true feelings for each other and make hot, passionate love? Good luck with that. Loid is only doing this for the mission! Wanna see Anya earn more stellas and bolts? Don’t bet on it. Wanna get close to the big bad with the weird eyes and learn what he’s plotting? Dream on. And that’s fine if SPYxFAMILY merely wants to be a very good comedy. But if the series wants to be more than that, it needs to move things forward a little faster than it’s currently doing.

By the way, I had the same reaction to the movie. It’s a fantastic comedy. Absolutely hurt my gut from laughter, especially during Anya’s dream sequence. The movie also looked gorgeous on the silver screen. But like the TV series, the movie’s story went nowhere. In the end, Anya didn’t even get to make her dessert. The character relationships were at a complete standstill too. Oh, here’s a fake scenario to make Yor insecure. Now Loid has to make amends and that usually means getting punched or kicked by his wife! Rinse and repeat. But again, I really like the show. I think it’s great overall. I just want it to be special, and I don’t think it’s quite there.

As for Sanda, the synopsis honestly doesn’t sound too appealing — the protagonist is a descendent of Santa Claus? — but at this point, I’ll check it out simply because it’s from Science SARU. Yeah, it’s an Amazon Prime show, but I’ll find a way to watch it. I’ll make one exception this season.

Shows I’m leaning towards covering

  • Towa no Yuugure
  • Let’s Play: Quest Darake no My Life

Relevant to my interests, I guess.

Shows that don’t sound exciting at a glance, but I haven’t written them off completely

  • Kikaijikake no Marie
  • My Awkward Senpai
  • Yano-kun no Futsuu no Hibi
  • Kao ni Denai Kashiwada-san to Kao ni Deru Oota-kun
  • Chanto Suenai Kyuuketsuki-chan
  • Taiyou yori mo Mabushii Hoshi
  • Shuumatsu Touring (sounds lowkey depressing)
  • Egao no Taenai Shokuba desu.
  • Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai
  • Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love!
  • Shabake
  • Gnosia

A lot of the shows listed above are slice-of-life romances. With these, you kinda just have to dive right into the deep end, and see for yourself if you vibe with the characters and what they bring to the table.

Gnosia might be an interesting one. I actually own this game on my PS5, because it came highly recommended. It’s like Among Us, but for people without friends to play with. In exchange, you get time looping and hot, sexy anime characters. Sadly, I never finished it, because I got bored after a while. I stopped seeing unique events on my own, and I wasn’t interested enough in the story to follow a guide. Maybe the anime adaptation will be more interesting than the game itself, so I’ll give it a chance if I can.

Another isekai where the MC thinks he gets shit skills but is actually mega OP

  • Ansatsusha de Aru Ore no Status ga Yuusha yori mo Akiraka ni Tsuyoi no da ga

Hate watch.

Shows where the guy gets to pick from several girls, but can’t make up his mind until the series no longer makes any money

  • Tomodachi no Imouto ga Ore ni dake Uzai
  • Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka
  • Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun

Hate watch until I can no longer stand the MC.

Another unoriginal villainess show

  • Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shite mo Yoroshii Deshou ka
  • Tensei Akujo no Kuro Rekishi

Maybe good for a casual watch.

Generic isekei or regular fantasy series

  • Chichi wa Eiyuu, Haha wa Seirei, Musume no Watashi wa Tenseisha
  • Akujiki Reijou to Kyouketsu Koushaku: Sono Mamono, Watashi ga Oishiku Itadakimasu!
  • Potion, Wagami wo Tasukeru
  • Mushoku no Eiyuu: Betsu ni Skill nanka Ira Nakattan Daga

Maybe good for a casual watch.

Sequel to something that I can realistically get caught up on

  • Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill S2
  • Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi 2nd Season
  • Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari 2nd Season (seems kinda trashy so more of a hate watch)

I actually remember covering Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. I thought I didn’t finish it, but it turns out I totally did. I guess it wasn’t too memorable after all. Technically, I don’t need to get caught up on it, but I should probably refresh my memory by watching a few episodes of the first season anyway.

Shows I likely won’t watch simply because their synopses don’t appeal to me

  • Ninja to Gokudou
  • SI-VIS: The Sound of Heroes
  • Monster Strike: Deadverse Reloaded

These just sound boring.

Shows I won’t watch because I’m likely ignorant about the subject matter

  • Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi
  • Kimi to Koete Koi ni Naru

I’m not interested in anything furry or furry-adjacent, and I know next to nothing about yuri stuff. Leave it to the experts.

Sequel or spinoff that will require too much catch-up

  • 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei
  • Fumetsu no Anata e Season 3
  • Boku no Hero Academia FINAL SEASON
  • Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray Part 2 (Iol lmao)
  • DIGIMON BEATBREAK
  • Kingdom 6th Season
  • Kagaku x Bouken Survival! 2nd Season

All I know is that I dropped Boku no Hero Academia for a reason.

Shows on a streaming service I’m not subscribed to

  • WanDance
  • Disney Twisted-Wonderland the Animation
  • Ranma 1/2 2nd Season
  • One Punch Man 3
  • Blue Orchestra (I don’t know where to watch it)

Out of the list above, WanDance and Blue Orchestra seem the most interesting, but since I gotta pay for more shit in order to watch them, it’s not happening. Not in this economy. One Punch Man was funny for a bit, but I eventually got used to the jokes. I felt the same way about Mashle. I sure as hell ain’t watching either of them for the plot.

I’m really happy you’re making an exception for Sanda. Paru Itagaki mentioned being attracted to Santa in her autobiography manga, which explains why Santa Clause is involved haha. It uses that premise to explore themes of puberty, gender, and censorship (which is particularly relevant at the moment) among other many other things.

Huh, I’ve never heard of anyone be attracted to Santa, but with billions of people on this planet, there’s gotta be someone for everyone.

This makes zero fucking sense. I would have never watched Chihayafull or any baseball anime or countless other stuff by this logic.

    (Iol lmao)

    What’s the joke here?
