Honestly, I am kind of disappointed in this week’s episode. When we last left off, Amoru had betrayed Akira and Yugure, but she was the only one to get captured by Marlum, the flamboyant version of Caniss. They look exactly alike because they’re cousins, okay? Don’t you look exactly like your cousin as well? I sure d-… no wait, I don’t. Not one bit. But I digress. Anyways, Akira naturally wanted to save Amoru, but this flied against Yugure’s “operating principles,” so she refused to help. As a result, Akira accused her of being a heartless android.
So at the start of this week’s episode, we jump straight to… Akira breaking into Amoru’s cell and freeing her? How? He’s never been a fighter. He’s simply a human teenager. Not only that, just a short while ago, he used to live a cushy first-world life in the 21st century. But now he can sneak into a military installation, grab the exact set of keys needed to free Amoru, find where Amoru is held, knock out a guard, and then fling a stun baton with near perfect aim to disable another guard. Huh? Trust me, teenagers in my world can’t do that shit.
Eventually, Marlum has them surrounded right before they could escape. Akira can’t do anything now, because it’s a numbers game. The soldiers then proceed to beat him up in front of Amoru. She responds by trying to sacrifice herself for his sake. All of a sudden, Akira delivers a powerful, motivation speech that moves Amoru’s heart. I’m telling you the guards literally stop beating him up just so he can yap. Huh? C’mon, really? I don’t expect super realism from my anime about hot, sexy androids, but I do expect a modicum of believability.

Anyways, Yugure obviously has to save the day again. Last time, she butchered Caniss and his men. Hell, “butchered” is probably downplaying it. Blood was flying all over the place. But for some reason, our android waifu decides to go the non-lethal route this time around. She scares the soldiers off by destroying their weapons. As for Marlum, he just gets a swift kick that sends him flying. Unfortunately, he’s very much still alive. Why are we sparing him exactly? How does this fit her “operating principles” exactly? I don’t get it. He’s just as big an asshole as Caniss. She can’t even get the non-lethal trophy anymore because she already has a body count, so why stop murdering these evil bastards now? Look, when Akira called you heartless, that doesn’t mean spare the sadistic bureaucrat who probably owns slaves.
But just like that, we have rescued Amoru in a little over eight minutes. Welp, that was a neat and tidy operation. What exactly are we going to do with the remainder of the episode though? I know, I know, we’re going to talk about getting hitched! I mean, obviously. Why wouldn’t Amoru instantly fall in love with Akira and want to enter into an “ehlsea” with him and Yugure? But when Akira continues to rebuff both girls’ advances, we conveniently stumble upon a town that is holding a matchmaking festival for prospective “ehlsea-ers.” Wow, what a coincidence!
Basically, Akira think the girls are rushing into things, which is definitely true for Amoru but may or may not be true for Yugure. After all, we don’t really know why the android wants to marry him so badly, because she refuses to tell us. It might help her case if she would drop the whole “it’s classified” act, but she won’t — because we have to withhold certain information from the audience in order to build suspense. Ooooooh, the mystery~. Nevertheless, she intends to “prove her love” by entering the festival and rejecting everyone who comes near her. Right. Super logical.

Suddenly, we are introduced to two half siblings from a local mafia family. Well, it used to be a family. They used to have a lot of people gathered ’round the dinner table. But thanks to a brutal power struggle, we’re down to just Fides and Kalcrom. Wait, I see two kids in this photo. And a dog. Don’t tell me those three were killed as well? Nevertheless, even after seeing like 90 of his family die, the patriarch still insists that “family” is important. As a result, the remaining half siblings need to find themselves a partner. You can already tell where this is going. The woman will lock onto Akira, and the man will try to pursue Yugure. But there’s a twist! Y’see, Fides is actually in love with… lemme check my notes… her half brother?!
The episode gets a big fat meh from me. The circumstances surrounding Amoru’s rescue were hard to swallow. Sorry, but it felt both unrealistic and rushed. Then we get to the “ehlsea” drama that just isn’t interesting to me. I’d prefer Amoru to be the little sister character, but if you’re going to have her fall in love with Akira, then her feelings should have developed gradually over their long journey. As for Yugure, her refusal to explain anything whatsoever is starting to get annoying. Ultimately, I’m not into polyamory so I hope we really don’t go down the route of Akira marrying both of them. And don’t even ask me about the incestuous mafiosos. Ugh.
Okay, I’m dropping this ‘so bad it’s good’ show, but I’ll be eagerly reading your weekly reviews.
