My Dress-Up Darling Ep. 19: Beware, a stomach!

Can you really tell that Marin has gained weight? Apparently yes; multiple people point it out in this week’s episode. In fact, Nowa supposedly noticed it when Marin was cosplaying as Rei-sama during the cultural festival. Well, you coulda fooled me. But it’s anime, so it’s hard to tell unless they oversell it. Anime can show me two different characters, tell me that person A is way hotter than person B, and I’ll just be like “Hweh?” But I digress. Marin’s girlies actually speculate that the special undies required to give a person a masculine body shape probably hid the weight gain. But if that’s true, then how did Nowa notice anything? At the end of the day, ball don’t lie, and the “ball” in this case is Gojo’s bespoke costumes. They were specifically tailored to a snapshot of Marin’s body, and if they don’t fit, then they don’t fit. Can’t be in denial about that.

Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex Ep. 7: Toxic future in-laws

A good chunk of this episode features Mio investigating Marie’s parents, trying to suss out whether or not the letter from Marie’s little brother is legit. We get to see Kyros’s head maid don many faces, and even perform her own stunts. After all, what sort of anime prince, lord, duke or what have you doesn’t have a super maid who can do it all? And even though Marie’s parents try their best to hide their duplicity (well, not really), ace detective Mio sees through it all quite easily. Again, what a super maid!

Secrets of the Silent Witch Ep. 7: Do we need the humiliation?

Every “the protagonist must attend the rich, fancy academy” scenario has a bullying subplot. And seven weeks in, we’re still dealing with it in Silent Witch. Monica literally gets poisoned to the point where she gets bedridden. Hey, helped her make a new frenemy, though. I’m guessing the enemy part isn’t serious… I hope. My point is, just because they invite you to a tea party (or anything for that matter) doesn’t mean you have to accept. Yes, Monica kinda stood up to the mean girl by refusing to capitulate on the stairs incident from like… uh, when was that again? Sheesh, that was a month ago? And we’re still talking about it? But seriously, bullying subplots haven’t been interesting for a long time. I don’t dislike Monica. I don’t dislike this anime either. But I feel like the show is spinning its wheels a bit here.

Dandadan Ep. 19 and stuff: What can you do when you adopt a bad egg

Evil Eye could’ve hurt Momo really badly in this week’s episode, so Manjiro’s right: adults are usually more pragmatic. They should be more pragmatic. If they didn’t constantly rain on everyone’s parade, kids would accidentally (and sometimes not so accidentally) kill themselves left and right with their antics. But Seiko has too much heart (as does everyone else in this show), so she doesn’t want to give up on Jiji even though her own granddaughter is in danger. Like shit, if I were in her shoes, I don’t think I’d vouch this hard for some random kid over my own (grand)child. And it’s not like it’s even Jiji who’s in danger; it’s just his feelings. We’re talking about Evil Eye. If Evil Eye gets send to a better place, Jiji will be sad but I think he’d ultimately get over it. Also, remember when the gang thought they had taken Turbo Granny down for good? Seiko talked about how the evil spirit must have been consoling the souls of murdered young girls, but they still had to exorcise Turbo Granny because we can’t let the yokai run wild and harm the living. But now she likes Jiji’s spirit enough to risk everyone’s lives? Does granny like Jiji that much?
