Infinite Stratos jumps the shark

Ah, the classic love story.

Girl meets boy’s sister. Girl creepily admires boy’s sister.

Girl is supermad that her mentor can smile (but it’s okay for girl to smile).

Girl decides to blame a freaking smile all on boy she has yet to meet.

Girl stalks boy’s sister to another school. Girl finally meets boy. Girl picks a fight with boy.

Girl is about to lose.

Girl is enveloped by the baddie from Ferngully.

Boy beats girl up anyway.

Girl reenacts her birth by falling out of a big, black vagina.

Girl imagines a conversation with boy she’s never had.

Girl falls in love with boy.

See? Classic love story. Shakespeare couldn’t have done any better.

Why do I want to continue [watching Infinite Stratos]? To see what they do with Laura Bodewig. If Laura stupidly falls in love with Ichika, I’m quitting the show because that’s just plain dumb. — KizukuKanshi

    >Girl imagines a conversation with boy she’s never had.

According to people who read the books, it’s a telepathic conversation (in the proud tradition of UC Gundam Newtypes) through the IS core network which links all IS cores.

The director of this episode seems to assume its audience immediately understand “this is a Newtype-like telepathic conversation” the moment they see nude characters floating in space metaphorically.

My suggestion is to give up hope on this point (it already happened!), and go on watching to see what kind of strange (yet banal) ideas the author considers to be appropriate materials of romance writing.

Oh? Has another telepathic conversation occurred up until this point? Just wondering if I may have missed it.

I’m now looking over the novel scans myself… No, that person misremembered it. It’s not a telepathic conversation. It seems Ichika simply murmured those words when Laura was in his arms.

Oh, by the way, you are watching the wrong sub. She said “You’ll be my wife!” or “You’ll be my bride!” The word is “yome”, the same word Japanese otaku use when they say “this is mai waifu”.

The point here is as a genetically engineered supersoldier, she knows very little about society, and when she asks *some spoiler character* for help, that person gave her some very wrong lessons on Japanese culture. That’s how moe is generated in this archetype, you know, through the contrast of coldness and social naivete.

Why do I want to watch [generic action movie]? To see what they do with the plot. If I see car chases, guns, and explosions, I’m calling it quits because that’s just plain dumb.

You’re right. I shouldn’t have expected anything more. I don’t really even know why I did. The rest of the show screamed generic and I didn’t listen….>_>

I think I’ll watch the last episode just to humor myself, but otherwise no. I think I’ll just stick to your coverage of it if you choose to continue. After all, I said what I said and I’m sticking to it. There’s nothing really left to see if they’ve gotten this far in without a single hint at something interesting happening. I could honestly care less about whatever automatic bullcrap IS machines they’re going to be fighting. Hell, they’ll probably even put another character in there after they go to the beach and/or another freaking hotspring. All in all, no.
