Maybe I’m just spoiled after Fireball(Charming) but the stuff we’re getting this season is, well, not good.
I’ve already mentioned Nyanpire! elsewhere on the blog so I’ll just jump right ahead to Double-J.
You wanna know what Double-J’s problem is? I’m not even gonna get into the first episode’s toothpicking “story.” After slogging through the absolutely terrible flash animation (I think I’ve seen better on Newgrounds.com) in the first three minutes and forty seconds, twenty mere seconds of the ED is enough to make me hate the anime. Why?
‘Cause the ED is what I should’ve been watching all along. Animation doesn’t have to be technically superb — it just has to be interesting. And static flash animation? Not interesting.
Next up is Morita-san wa Mukuchi, where the first episode was seemingly about a socially awkward girl and her chatty, oblivious friend. Although the anime claims that Morita is simply of little words, she needs her mother’s help on things as simple as maintaining eye contact.
This anime’s problem is that the main character is too boring and trite for even a scant two or three minutes a week. There are so many different kinds of socially awkward human beings out there. Why, then, base a short on a shy but relatively normal shoujo, a character type that has been done to death in practically every damn anime out there?
Wouldn’t it be nice if Morita acted like another socially awkward TV character? Here, lemme just make the first episode a little more interesting — if not for you, at least for me:

Yep, Morita is a lot more interesting with that voice. Yes sir indeed. Also yeesh, another boy crazy motor-mouth.Yakkity yak yak. Finally I’d rather watch Nyan Cat than that “J” anime.
I support this Morita.
LET’S START A PETITION. MICHAEL C. HALL TO BECOME A SEIYUU.
I’d sign that.
Here is a helpful formula for everyone to remember.
Morita + Michael C. Hall voice-overs = Comedy Gold
