Ikoku Meiro no Croisée Ep. 4: So much world-building!

First, Yune puts soy sauce on cheese and thinks to herself, “Hm, not bad.” Blech. Clod (pun so intended) then sniffs the bottle of soy sauce and exclaims that it smells rotten. He comes from a culture that enjoys a vast assortment of smelly cheeses but soy sauce is apparently too much. Yune retorts that soy sauce is the sauce of Japan and she’ll prove him wrong by cooking him dinner. She proceeds to do a little dual-fist pump because making dinner is, like, so awesome. Apparently, we have to watch episodes about eating soup with spoons and the wonders of cheese because we are “world-building.” I’ve been told that anime fans know next to nothing about France so we gotta start super simple. Let’s just see how simple….

Suddenly, a servant from the rich Blanche (a.k.a. white as hell weeaboos) family has arrived with an invitation for Yune; the butler’s ojousama would love to have Yune over for some pinkie-raising tea time. We then cut to a French loli with blonde curls taking a bath — this is world-building, y’see. French loli regales her servants with tales of Japan’s glorious open baths — wait, why does it seem like this anime is actually world-building Japan more than France? I ask myself this as the French loli proceeds to squeal over and over about beautiful Japanese women in Japanese clothing. Unfortunately, her servant has returned with some bad news: under Clod’s advice, Yune has rejected the gaijin’s invitation. Meanwhile, Clod walks in on Yune trying to bathe — world-building! Yune accidentally trips and gets water all over her flimsy white robe — world-building!

The following morning, French loli makes her way to Clod’s place and glomps Yune as soon as she sees the tiny Japanese girl. She immediately wishes to buy Yune, a human being, away from Clod, but Clod grabs Yune and runs away. In spite of Clod’s many protestations, Yune feels that it would be “rude” of her to reject the French loli’s advances. Naturally, she decides to follow a complete stranger to her strange home for tea. Of course, this anime is completely white-washed so nothing bad could possibly happen to Yune. She’ll just meet yet another beautiful French women with beautiful eyes — world building!

While the bourgeoisie has his servant, Clod wanders the streets of Paris with his head down. A friend notices his sour disposition and invites Clod to have a chat. At the same time that Clod is acting all tsuntsun about Yune, she is buck-naked yet again. Yes, that’s three naked lolis in a single episode — simply captivating world-building. French loli intends to keep Yune as a human doll, but she makes the fatal mistake of badmouthing Clod. Never badmouth a woman’s man! Yune then remembers her duty — to cook dinner! — and decides that it’s time to return home. Not even her mother’s treasured kimono will keep Yune from cooking for her man!

Yune returns and cooks that great ass dinner and somewhere, somehow, Henrik Ibsen is rolling in his grave.

And yet we have to see the moral, social, and developmental differences between the two cultures. *shrug* So far, it looked like a “Japanese Loli in Paris” to me.
