It’s the holidays, so let’s just cut to the chase.
24. Trinity Seven
Another episode, another room. I haven’t watched the finale yet, but I hear it unfolds in a tiny room as well. Whoever came up with this show truly has vision.
23. Inou Battle Within Everyday Life
Uh, what did this show even accomplish? It felt like the goal of the story was to get everyone to admit that they liked Jurai and nothing more. Oh well, the whole thing was dreadfully inane.
22. Grisaia no Kajitsu
Pedophilia is cool and edgy, you guys. Cannibalism just isn’t hard enough.
21. Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete
Was that even an ending? I don’t know. I really don’t know. I definitely didn’t get any catharsis out of it. I guess it would’ve worked if you actually like Kaori, but I’m sure she was the most annoying character on the show.
20. Terra Formars
Nice… it’s the non-ending ending. Will this thing actually get a sequel, though? Oh well. It doesn’t really matter in the long run. I wouldn’t tune in for it anyway.
19. Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji
Another season, another distasteful shoujo down. What’s next? A shoujo’s going to become bulimic just to get a hot boyfriend?
18. Gundam Build Fighters Try
17. Sword Art Online II
16. Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
I’ve forgotten what the episode was even about. I’m sure it was still more fun to watch than SAO, though.
15. Madan no Ou to Vanadis
Delay of game. Making a big deal out of an unnecessary character’s death. Still third and long.
14. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
I bet this anime will still be the most pretentious show whenever the winter season finally rolls around.
13. Log Horizon 2
After killing Shiroe off once, I guess the writer didn’t want to put the here through even more adversity. As a result, he kind of just waltz into the final boss’s room, did what he wanted, then walked out. Talk about a snooze-inducing conclusion to an arc…
The job interviews were the most amusing part of the episode for me. Everything else? Ehhh. Same ol’ Shirobako.
11. Fate/stay night – Unlimited Blade Works
Apparently, an episode full of boring conversations is really the filet mignon of anime. The best part is how they seem to think a steak can’t be criticized. Fate/stay night fans are hilarious.
10. Akatsuki no Yona
We got a pretty generic episode this week, but not only that, it doesn’t seem like the show garners much interest these days. I still like the show enough to watch it, but I’m not sure if I should still blog it. It just feels like a waste of time. If I can find another show to replace it during the winter, I probably will. I’ll just have to see how the schedule shakes out.
9. Donten ni Warau
Long story short, the good guys all survive and everyone falls in love with everyone. I thought the two younger brothers might have to cope with the fact that they’ll eventually have to move on from Tenka and live their own lives, but I guess not! Everything always works out perfectly in the end!
8. Cross Ange
Too much exposition, man. Way too much exposition. As edgy as the show often tries to be, you’d think it would at least try to break storytelling conventions, but I guess not.
7. Psycho-Pass 2
Welp, that ending was as bad as I thought it would be. I’ll probably watch the movie when it finally gets subbed, but I doubt I’ll write about it. It’s just not worth the trouble.
6. Gundam: Reconguista in G
Another week, another letdown. I keep waiting for the story to explode, but it seems content to keep setting things up.
5. Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen
Well… I didn’t feel as though much got resolved. It seems like we’re only halfway through a really long story, but I’m not sure I’d care for more Argevollen. Tensions are still high. Peace is only temporary. A couple villains died, but there are plenty more where they came from. Meh. I also like how they kept hinting at a romance between Tokimune and Jamie, but a handshake is all that they share when it is all said and done.
4. Amagi Brilliant Park
Well, last week’s episode wasn’t the last episode, but it might as well have been. And y’know, it was the safe sort of conclusion that put me right to sleep. No risk, no reward.
3. Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis
Things are pretty safe over here as well, but at least there was action. I’m not as excited about the show as I once was. It’s nice if the show got a sequel, but I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it if it didn’t.
2. Mushishi Zoku Shou
Standard Mushishi is still pretty good. Just doesn’t do much to push the envelope. All in all, it’s kind of depressing how safe anime has become. Even Cross Ange simply relies on shock value and fanservice to push its viewers’ boundaries.
1. Garo: The Carved Seal
Yep, best show of the season by far.
