Making (tentative) plans for the Spring 2026 anime season

As the seasons turn… oh yeah, shorts not included.

Shows I’ll definitely cover

  • The Ramparts of Ice

Well, I enjoyed You and I Are Polar Opposites a lot, and this is by the same author. On the downside, I took a glance at the manga and it didn’t immediately draw me in. I kinda get impatient with super shy characters. But hey, maybe we’ll see a cameo or two from You and I Are Polar Opposites.

Shows I’m leaning towards covering

  • Daemons of the Shadow Realm
  • Eren the Southpaw
  • Haibara’s Teenage New Game+
  • MARRIAGETOXIN
  • Needy Girl Overdose
  • The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten2
  • Witch Hat Atelier

Eh, I’m not really all that excited for Daemons of the Shadow Realm, but I gotta have one action show a season, I guess. I own the first volume of Witch Hat Atelier on Kindle ’cause it was on sale. I haven’t actually cracked it open yet, though. Maybe I’ll give myself a preview tonight before I go to sleep. MARRIAGETOXIN might be Spy x Family with more progress? I own Needy Girl Overdose on my PS5. I should probably play it before the show airs. Or maybe after. I’m undecided. I somewhat enjoyed the first season The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, but towards the end, it started feeling a bit repetitive and cloying. I don’t have high hopes for Haibara’s Teenage New Game+, but I’m always sorta intrigued by stories where the protagonist gets a do-over. I’m not quite sure where to slot Eren the Southpaw, honestly. Putting it here on a hunch.

Shows that don’t sound exciting at a glance, but I haven’t written them off completely

  • A Hundred Scenes of AWAJIMA
  • Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring
  • Akane-banashi
  • Always a Catch!: How I Punched My Way into Marrying a Prince
  • Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke
  • Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk
  • Even a Replica Can Fall in Love
  • Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!?
  • GHOST CONCERT : missing Songs
  • Go For It, Nakamura-kun!!
  • I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class
  • I Want to End this Love Game
  • Kill Blue
  • Killed Again, Mr. Detective?
  • Kirio Fan Club
  • MAO
  • Mission: Yozakura Family S2
  • Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy
  • Pardon the Intrusion, I’m Home!
  • Petals of Reincarnation
  • SNOWBALL EARTH
  • The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch
  • The Drops of God
  • The Food Diary of Miss Maid
  • The Klutzy Class Monitor and the Girl with the Short Skirt
  • The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King
  • Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2

The biggest downside with the opera anime isn’t opera itself, but that it takes place at an all-girls school. That four seasons show has a bizarre premise. So does the romance series involving a girl generating a replica. Uh, what does it even mean to create a replica? Does she have magical powers? I can’t remember if I’m fully caught up with Ascendance of a Bookworm. I might not be able to watch the new season. The nerds x gyarus trend is getting tired. Always a Catch!: How I Punched My Way into Marrying a Prince might be a villainess show. I can’t tell if the protagonist has been reborn or not. The idea of ranking people by attractiveness is gross, so I’m already predisposed to not liking I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class. Sounds like more “will they, won’t they” bullshit with I Want to End this Love Game. The male lead in The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King looks like he’s over 40, but he’s only 18? No way. I found Will’s overall congeniality towards his bullies kinda annoying in Wistoria. Plus, being in love with someone you can’t even see sounds dumb, but maybe she’s actually his roommate in disguise. I remember that being a point of contention when the first season aired.

Isekai slop

  • Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Season 3
  • Farming Life in Another World S2
  • Goddess: “What Do You Want to Turn Into When You’re Reincarnated in Another World?” Me: “Into a Hero’s Rib”)
  • The strongest job is apparently not a hero or a sage, but an appraiser (provisional)!

These all sound boring as hell. Well, I’ve seen the first two. I know they’re boring as hell. Yawn. Wait, wasn’t there a show with the exact same premise as the appraisal anime just several seasons ago?

More reborn as a villainess slop

  • An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess
  • The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen S2

Meh. I’ll probably still watch one of them. Hell, maybe both. The thing is, I somehow forgot that I’ve seen The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen. Welp, it sure left a lasting impression on me.

Unappealing synopses

  • Aces of Diamond act II Season Season
  • Fist of the North Star
  • Ichijōma Mankitsu Gurashi!
  • Kujima: Why Sing, When You Can Warble?
  • Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods
  • LIAR GAME
  • Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly
  • Rooster Fighter
  • Yowayowa Sensei

I’ve never enjoyed shows like Liar Game, so this is just going off of past experiences. No, I’m not gonna watch a demon-fighting cock. Fist of the North Star isn’t my vibe. Yowayowa Sensei sounds trashy as hell. I like baseball. I typically don’t like baseball anime.

Seen it, don’t care for it

  • Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4
  • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4
  • Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 5

Absolutely no interest in any of these shows.

Sequel or spinoff that will require too much catch-up

  • Classroom of the Elite 4th Season: Second Year, First Semester
  • Dorohedoro Season 2
  • Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Cour 3
  • ONE PIECE
  • The Beginning After the End Season 2
  • Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4

I’ve heard good things about Dr. Stone and Dorohedoro, but I just have no time to get caught up. I’ve seen literally two episodes of ONE PIECE. So… yeah… I’ve never seen Classroom of the Elite, but every description of the main character makes him sound completely insufferable. I’m like somewhere in season two of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. It’s pretty mid.

I’m here to vouch for ‘I made friends with the 2nd prettiest girl in my class.’ Yes, the title sounds absolutely juvenile, but trust me when I say the story is self-aware of its callous moniker and finds it just as gross as you do (that’s all I’ll say on that). As for the series itself, it’s a surprisingly well-executed adolescent romance between two characters who bear real flaws (not the kind that’s meant to be pandering) but are charming nevertheless in their interactions. It also helps that the story is less beholden to modern manga/LN romcom trappings and only uses some recognizable tropes as a starting point to write a teenage romance that feels natural in its interpersonal dynamics. It’s just good to see stories in this kind of animanga genre that don’t treat intimacy as some puritanical struggle and an author capable of bringing a natural authenticity to its romance, even if it’s not exactly reinventing wheel

My only real concern(s) going into this anime adaptation are the visuals being a bit underwhelming given the manga’s soft but impeccable linework/drawings, and whether the direction will be strong enough to accentuate what makes the manga (and by extension I assume, the light novel) as emotionally tender and well-written as it is. Not saying this is the greatest thing since Nutella, but it’s pretty good, which again, was surprising to me given how crass the title comes off. I put off reading it for as long as I did because it sounded like it would be ass, only for me to cave-in and give it a shot cuz I was feening for some cute romantic moments and was hoping I’d get my fix even it were a crappy story lol. To my surprise, it was not a crappy story, so win-win there

Also, congrats on blogging through the entirety of winter season. Journal of the Witch is top tier!

Oh, I intend to try it. You know how it goes. We make judgments based on the info we have, then we update our judgments as we get more info. If I vibe with the show after the first episode, I’ll keep going.
