No better way to establish trust than to share a meal, right?
— It’s always funny when the animation budget drops. It didn’t affect the food too much, at least.
— Oh, these three are all related. All from different mothers, apparently. Tsk, tsk, father…
— Anime always has such convenient ways to avoid real world consequences. Remember how in Dandadan, they would just use alien nanotechnology to magically rebuild a house? Used to be, Goku and friends would have to fly themselves to middle-of-nowhere locations in order to do battle. Well, in this show, Hagure has whiteout and ink powers, so he can literally just draw over the damages. His repairs seem monochrome at first, but apparently, the surrounding colors will just… come back? I feel like you could harness this power to great effect. Just think of all the humanitarian aid he could do in wartorn countries. But Hagure seems like the type of guy who just wants to live the simple life. As the oldest of the three brothers, he should inherit the clan, but he says he just wants to draw his manga in peace.
— Left and Right get their share of food as well even though they say they don’t eat human food. Does it nourish them anyway? Does it even taste good to them?
— Jesus, she’s even enamored over her brother eating?
— The tone is so goofy. They’re grilling Dera on whether or not the village had sent the assassins. I feel like Yuru should take this more seriously, ’cause the village he cherishes so much is trying to murder his sister. But bro is just happily stuffing his face.
— Eventually, Dera asks the right question: what exactly does the Kagemori clan want with the twins? The old man replies that he wants to end the entire practice. Every time a new set of twins is born, the world is thrown into chaos. So no more twins, no more shady village that creates them. Sounds reasonable enough… if he’s telling the truth.
— Unfortunately, not everyone agrees. The middle brother wants to use the powers to govern in peace! Uh-huh. The thing is, Break is so destructive. What can it do other than destroy things (and people)? Like I said, someone like Hagure could do so much good for the world. His powers are practical and has plenty of everyday applications. They don’t need Seal and Break to already start “governing” peacefully. So what’s stopping them?
— After listening quietly, Yuru finally has something to say: he won’t run or hide. Instead, he will face his enemies head on, grill them for info once he beats them, blah blah blah. For once, Asa actually has something negative to say about her brother. And I mean, she’s kinda right. He hasn’t been hounded day and night by assassins. He doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t even have his power of Seal yet. Why is Yuru being so arrogant about this? He doesn’t even fully understand the modern world he has been dropped into. For instance, this is the first time he’s even taken a selfie. Slow your roll, kid. Learn a thing or two about the world around you first.
— Yuru says he won’t side with anyone who would murder people from his village. Okay, but let’s get to the bottom of that. Why did Gabby go on a killing spree? Can we get an explanation please? Even if the village truly was responsible for sending assassins after Asa, why kill random people? You don’t know if they’re guilty or not.
— But they never discuss it. Instead, Yuru and Dera are free to leave. I guess that’s a pretty decent show of good faith. We still don’t know if they can be fully trusted, but so far, so good, right? Except for the middle brother who does want the twins’ powers…
— I do hope the mom and dad are alive. I am so tired of dead parents in anime.
— Unfortunately, Left and Right can’t have their pictures taken. I love how fiction can never agree on whether or not technology can record spirits. No, it totally doesn’t work! But if I stick this camera in my room overnight, I’m sure to record ghost orbs!
— Right as Yuru is about to leave, Asa finally tells him that their parents wanted to escape with him too, but granny had other ideas. Geez, you could’ve led with that. Again, I feel like the priorities are outta whack. This should’ve been one of the first topics of discussion. I still can’t get over the fact that Gabby wasn’t grilled for being a mass murderer.
— Even though she’s in danger every time she steps outside of the compound, Asa embraces Yuru anyway. I mean, she could’ve just done that before he leaves the safe zone, but sure, this is a nice moment.
— On the plus side, the biggest takeaway is that Yuru no longer harbors any doubts about Asa.
