Sanda Ep. 5: Ono’s revelations

So there’s no real mystery with Ono. Puberty simply kicked in, and as a result, she feared what that sick headmaster might do to her in this weird, twisted world that they inhabit. Fair enough. I can understand her actions from that perspective. Nevertheless, I’ve got some… conflicting thoughts about these revelations. First, this rather seems anticlimactic. I’m sorry, but that’s just how I feel. No weird conspiracy. No bizarre kidnapping. She didn’t get sent to that dark and scary place. Y’know, the punishment Oshibu had threatened Amaya with back in the second episode. Nah, the reality is that she simply went through puberty, so she ran away because this society has an unhealthy relationship with youthfulness and aging.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? Ep. 6: Ascending the hierarchy of people to punch

When the story resumes, Scarlet is all by herself on a balcony as she tells us how Terenezza has disappeared. Huh, what happened to punching Julius? Don’t tell me we’re skipping out on that. You can’t give me a cliffhanger and then not resolve it! But instead of punching out an annoying prince, Scarlet reads a letter from the latest incarnation of Saint Diana. Scarlet has a new mission: go on a holy pilgrimage with the saint. She’ll be there as both friend and bodyguard. Moreover, the prince somehow has both women pissed off at him. We all know he can troll Scarlet, but what exactly has he done to Diana? Well, this is anime, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the saint herself is somehow a part of Scarlet’s harem. As such, it’s probably a safe bet that she’s jealous of anyone who gets close to her crush.

My Awkward Senpai Ep. 5: Two idiots risk their lives for an office job

A typhoon is headed their way, so Kannawa wonders if she should tell her mentee to even come to work. Uh, no? There’s no way in hell you would find me in the office if there’s a typhoon warning. Not only that, the weather forecast is literally telling people to stay home. I think it’s wild to put work over your own personal safety, especially when you’re just a grunt in the office. If your bosses can’t understand that, you’re probably working for a black company. But as she leaves her apartment, the “camera” lingers on the umbrella she has left behind. Y’see, you can’t have a doki doki “let’s share an umbrella” moment if you don’t go to work and risk your life!

Dusk Beyond the End of the World Ep. 5: I’m throwing in the towel

When we last left off, Akira had jumped in harm’s way in order to protect an android of all things, but fine, chalk it up to instincts. Let’s just accept that his body moved before he could think logically. But even as he’s bleeding out, he tells Yugure not to kill the mafia boss who is hellbent on enslaving her for his own selfish ends. He’ll probably end up issuing orders to kill him and Amoru too. Why would he spare them? No, it’s not that I want to see Yugure butcher her enemies. I’m not asking for anyone to die. But the last thing I would do in a dangerous situation is to put conditions on what my savior can do. “Oh no, my house in on fire! Please save me, heroic fireman! But please, can you not break down my door or get my house wet? Can you just put the fire out without doing either of those things? Gee, thanks.” It’s ridiculous.

The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess Ep. 4

Honestly, real Konoha is being real pathetic in this week’s episode. Sol and Yomi are destined to clash, and she believes that no matter who dies, her death flag will be triggered. But as the story unfolds, she begins to hold some rather outlandish positions. For instance, she thinks, “He may be a villain, but he isn’t rough or stupid.” Um, okay? Who cares? You think it matters if a villain has class or not? If a villain has manners? Let me spoil it for you: they’re still a villain who wants to hurt the people you care about. Real Konoha reflects on why Yomi was created in the first place. At the time, she was fueled by petty jealousy over her classmate getting special treatment from a boy. Naturally, Yomi needed a backstory, so cue the sob story about being bullied by his brothers and whatnot. Real Konoha ultimately concludes, “I have no right to be exasperated with Yomi.” Nonsense.
