The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess Ep. 16: What a downer

So Lucas disappears, and Claude no longer remembers Athy. We’re back to square one, except Athy is a teenager with powers. I guess that’s marginally better than being a baby with no powers, but still, what the hell, man? The worst part is that there’s no need for this. In order to save her father in the first place, Athy had to break through his defensive barrier — his trauma of losing his wife — and thus make him remember that he still has his daughter. So when he still loses his memories of her anyway, it’s like for what? Why rehash this storyline? I can’t help but think that this is just a cheap ploy to keep viewers or readers hooked. No, please, don’t leave! We have more story to tell… uh, Claude doesn’t love Athy anymore! So you gotta stick around to see if she can thaw his heart again! Yeah! The sad part is that we already have an overarching villain ready to go! It’s that evil wizard who created this mess in the first place. It’s that evil wizard who has been in cahoots with Duke What’s-his-face. Future storylines can be about taking him down, so we don’t need to redo the whole Claude bullshit again! So again, what the hell, man?

SPY x FAMILY Ep. 50: Feels like home

Sure, Twilight and his spy friends were this close to losing their lives, but when he sees his family enjoying a lazy, peaceful afternoon possibly on a weekend, it was all worth the trouble, right? It should come to no surprise that a show called SPY x FAMILY is at its best when it’s all about the family. For me, all of the memorable moments from this anime involves the family in some form or fashion. Remember when Loid nearly punched Mister Swan because the nasty man was insulting his made-up family? Sure, the lead up to the interview was hilarious, but this was the first time we could confirm that his made-up family was more than just a mission to him. Remember when Yor pulled out all the stops just protect a mother and child? Then afterwards, she came to realize that her made-up family is now just as important to her as Yuri, her real family.

The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess Ep. 12: At least it’s finally over

To make a long story short, the fearsome vampire lord doesn’t even have a name. He’s just… well, the vampire lord. Someone with connections to Tomokazu Sugita probably asked if the voice actor would like to come into the studio, ham it up for a few minutes, and collect a paycheck, which is exactly what he did. With the power of her sister’s blood, Iana manages to resist being turned into a vampire, trick the vampire lord into allowing her and Sol to get close, then defeat the vampire lord once and for all with a metal stake blessed with, again, her sister’s blood.

The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess Ep. 15: Inception time

Claude has come all the way out to the countryside for the annual harvest festival. He also gives Athy an opportunity to carry out an important tradition with him. Basically, they’re going to hit up the magical wellspring and perform a sacred offering. I assume this is how the kingdom overcame the drought and famine all those years ago? Oh yeah, Lucas’s tower just happens to be the same tower that houses said magical wellspring. First, what a small world. Second, I honestly can’t remember if Claude recognized the wizard when the latter casually offered up his assistance to save Athy from her affliction at the start of the series. I’m also too lazy to go back and rewatch whatever episode that was.

SPY x FAMILY Ep. 49: When spies face off

When we last left off, the plan was for Loid to stall the SSS, thereby buying enough time for the rest of WISE to locate and capture Wheeler. Unfortunately, the SSS had laid a trap specifically for Twilight. Surely, our super spy dad can’t allow himself to get caught, right? Of course not. You always gotta be prepared for all contingencies, so naturally, the park’s fountain is booby-trapped. “Naturally”, I say, as if I know a damn thing about being a spy. It also helps that the SSS have stormtrooper-level aim. They have Loid surrounded, but they can’t manage to hit him with even a single bullet. The bad guys aren’t exactly recruiting the best of the best, huh? I actually think it would’ve been better if Loid had at least been grazed by a bullet or two. It might not have been Loid’s fault that he fell into a trap, but mistakes should have consequences. Raise the stakes a little, y’know?
