Villainess Villainy (or the lack thereof): Fall 2026, Week 5

lol

Even Though I’m a Super Timid Noble Girl, I Accepted the Bet From My Cunning Fiancé Ep. 5

Welp, I’m disappointed. Caroline is also a reincarnator much like Pia, and she’s doing exactly what she needs to do in order to win over all the boys’ hearts. She might run into some trouble with Rufus, but we’ll have to wait and see. He’s been avoiding her, but the episode leaves us on a cliffhanger where she intercepts him for the first time. In any case, Caroline’s shaping up to be the antagonist after all, which is pathetic. I think it’s incredibly weak that we end up getting a bog standard villainess story after all. Even worse, there’s no fight in either Pia or Erin. Erin has seemingly already given up on Henry, so she takes a break from the academy and leaves Pia utterly alone. Even if Henry sucks, you can always find someone else to marry. But no, Erin just acquiesces. Meanwhile, Pia laments the fact that she hasn’t saved up enough money to survive on her own, because she is also resigned to the fact that she will lose Rufus; even after spending all this time with him, she still doesn’t think he has free will. I mean, two things can be true: Pia should strive to stand on her own two feet regardless of Rufus’s feelings, and it’s pretty pathetic that she doesn’t trust her own fiancé to remain loyal. It’s bad enough that Caroline has to be the rival, but Pia won’t even step up to the challenge! As I’ve said over and over, I only find villainess shows appealing when the heroine has ambitions. Sadly, Pia just wants to run and hide. Rufus basically had to shower her with kisses all night to cheer her up, but I doubt she’ll remain confident for very long. The foundations just aren’t there.

Also, some random dude wants to steal Pia away from Rufus? I thought Pia played the game. Shouldn’t she know who this guy is?

Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden Ep. 5

There’s a physical examination day at the academy, and Nia naturally beats Relia at every single activity. This must be an East Asian thing, because I don’t ever remember doing a strength test or long jumps in PE. At most, they had us run a mile and see how long it took.

Later, Nia checks out a martial arts club, but she quickly determines that the instructor wouldn’t even last a second against her. To prove her point without revealing that she’s super strong, she simply has her maid defeat him.

Finally, Nia, Relia, and Hilde try to come up with a program that will draw in the masses and thus sell more magivision sets. All of Nia’s initial ideas involve fighting and/or bloodshed. When her maid suggests romance — I don’t really want ideas from a pedo, though — Nia’s suggestion is still too extreme. Well, I suppose she’s technically a grown woman inside of a child’s body. In the end, the girls realize that they need viewer participation, so Hilde settles on a martial arts tournament where anyone can sign up. On paper, this is right up Nia’s alley… but does she really want to reveal to the entire world that she’s a strong lil’ baby who can beat up grown adults? I thought they wanted to keep that a secret, which is why she had her maid fight the instructor earlier in the episode.

The World’s Strongest Witch Ep. 5

Lorna becomes the elves’ savior, which shouldn’t really surprise anyone. For some reason, she feels guilty for using her own talent, i.e., the internet. She thinks she needs to confess to the elves that she’s been cheating. Well, they don’t care. She’s still their savior. The elf queen even takes out House Guugelheit for booting Lorna out. Ultimately, this experience has emboldened our heroine to keep traveling and find others to help. That’s neat, I guess.

I don’t really understand the second half. I mean, I understand it, but the punchline feels off. A bunch of shady men gather to discuss recent events and plot evil things — y’know, as shady men are wont to do. But when the lights come on, they suddenly see Lorna sitting at the same table. Apparently, she stumbled upon an evil conspiracy just because she wanted to get out of the rain. Okay, that punchline is fine. It got a half chuckle out of me. She then serves them tea. This punchline is fine, too. Haha, our witch doesn’t realize that these men are evil! Silly Lorna! But then she pulls up a tutorial on how to make mayonnaise? How did we get from tea to mayonnaise? Apparently, Lorna thinks we drink mayonnaise. Last but not least, she keeps searching the internet until she stumbles upon… an eroge? Alright, show, now you’re just being weird.

A Tale of the Secret Saint Ep. 6

Every week, Fia looks goofier and goofier with her familiar. Nevertheless, the show quickly reminds you that it’s a villainess show when these tall, broad-shouldered knights proceed to fight over the girl. She, however, gravitates to the one woman among the bunch. I’m not sure why a captain needs to sport this much cleavage, but she certainly knows how to use her feminine wiles. I’m just glad there is at least one female captain.

By the way, what ever happened to Fabian?

The current conflict is centered around the black dragon. They think it’s dangerous, so they want to drive back to its roost. Obviously, only Quentin realizes that the oh-so-dangerous black dragon is currently disguised as a dumb bird living in Fia’s uniform. So the two of them hatch a plan where Zavilia pretends to be scared off.

Unfortunately, they probably won’t get a chance to execute it, because the expedition is interrupted by a dream bird that quickly turns into an ugly monster. Welp, Fia’s identity as a saint was already a poorly kept secret, so she might as well flex her muscles and help defeat this dumb mob.

I dunno, I don’t really have any deep thoughts about this show. There’s no overarching plot to track. We’re kinda just watching Fia stumble from one silly episode to the next.

Romelia War Chronicles Ep. 5

At the start of the episode, we get a flashback that showed how close Romelia was with her ex-fiance, i.e. the prince. Sadly, this seemed to change as soon as the healer joined the party. Elisabeth wanted to drive a wedge between them from the start, and it certainly worked. How will this ultimately end for the prince, I wonder. Obviously, I don’t think he’s going to get Romelia back. But will he survive the story at all is what I’m curious about. What’s the end goal for this character? Do we want to see him punished for betraying Romelia and allowing himself to be seduced by Elisabeth?

Back in the present, Romelia and her men have managed to elude the demon lord’s army for now, but they’re still being chased. Romelia hatches a plan that might get them the advantage, but she doesn’t account for the leader attacking from above. Luckily, Ray and Al keep getting stronger and stronger as they tap into their magical ability. Kinda convenient that they would power up like this. Maybe fighting for Romelia gives them the extra juice they need to overcome their limits or whatever, but sometimes, you gotta have luck on your side. As a result, they’re able to keep the enemy leader at bay, which allows the rest of Romelia’s gambit to work as intended.

In the end, however, our heroine collapses after breathing heavily for quite an extended period of time. What’s up with that? Has she been hiding a secret affliction this whole time? I guess we’ll find out next week.
