Oh hey, at least Imouto and Eureka Seven: AO are returning soon, right? On the other hand, so is Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate. To be quite honest, I’m not sure if this is a net positive or not. Oh well, let’s get down to brass tacks.

10. Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai — Last week: 9
Ho hum, the main character is the chosen one.

9. Hagure Yuusha no Estetica — Last week: 10
This week’s rip was so blurry, I could barely tell what was happening onscreen. So much for the uncensored version, right? Oh well, this was probably for the better anyhow. From the little that I could actually discern, we had hijinks like a bike lashing out against unworthy riders with electricity. So naturally, when a female classmate tried to touch it, the bike made all of her clothes fly off.
On a different note, the main character has daddy issues. Of course.

8. Campione! — Last week: 6
The sound effects are hilarious. At one point, Erica slashes some mage-like enemy in two and it lets out the silliest scream. And what’s the big showdown of the episode? A game of hide and seek. Woo, let’s hope they don’t play Marco Polo next! I’m not sure if my heart can take all the excitement!
Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with Erica latching onto the main character right from the outset of the story. After all, this is at least somewhat different from all the will-they-or-won’t-they nonsense in most other series. After six episodes, however, the two still have no chemistry whatsoever, and it’s really the guy’s fault. He just has no personality. He simply spends most of the episode asking questions, Erica then answers those questions, then he gets to go and save the day.

7. Tari Tari — Last week: 7
When your guardians tell you that riding horsies might not pay the bills, it’s reasonable to strip down to your underwear to show them what’s what. Keepin’ it real, dawg. Maybe look into dressage. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there willing to subsidize horse ballet.
On a more serious note, I’m never a fan of when a story jumps from one person’s issues to the next. The execution just feels too inorganic for my liking. In any case, at least I can relate to someone losing their mother. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about a girl who can’t live out her horse riding dreams.

6. Arcana Famiglia — Last week: 8
Debito might be skeezy as hell, but Luca is the creepiest of the bunch. I’m tellin’ ya, he’s giving her the rape eyes. How much older than Felicita is he anyway? It doesn’t matter; he has been her butler since she was a loli. I won’t stand for this Usagi Drop shit. Obviously, he doesn’t have a chance since he’s not really a main character, but ugh.

5. Kuroko’s Basketball — Last week: 2
Meh, the show’s only fun when the protagonists are getting their asses kicked. I don’t care about the in-between stuff.
* * * * *
4. Sword Art Online — Last week: 5
After my recent 2200-word diatribe, I’m not sure if there’s much else I can say about last week’s episode. Well, I think it’s very funny that SAO defenders point to the anime’s world-building as a plus. What world-building?

3. Binbou-gami ga! — Last week: 4
Not much to say. It was okay. But man, does this show love DBZ and everything to do with DBZ or what?
* * * * *
2. Kokoro Connect — Last week: 3
Fin din’t like how my recent post on KC didn’t harp on the fact that the characters are scared of sex. So okay, Fin wants you to know that the characters are scared of sex.

1. Natsuyuki Rendezvous — Last week: 1
Speaking of sex, it is getting rather tiring that the characters are always about to engage in sex only to back out at the last minute. I don’t care if they have sex or not, but maybe it’s about time to do something else, no?
Wait until they focus on Luca’s dad who is also a bachelor in the game. I don’t understand why people like this series that much, it’s too freaking creepy with all the incest and pedo shit.
From what I gather, it makes good shipping fodder.
It’s the kind of stuff that young teenage girls with accounts on Fanfiction.net and deviantart would like.
Plus there’s a guy named Debt who stretches his ‘bambina’ a bit more then he should.
I don’t like Natsuyuki, it feels dumb. Am I not classy enough? :(
You like whatever you want to like, bro.
I’ve heard boring before, but not dumb. Not trying to say it isn’t, but would be interested to hear you elaborate on that.
I just can’t buy into the drama. It feels silly and, well, dumb. Our protag is unlikeable and only thinks about how he can bang her, the ghost is acting childish (but I like his backstory, it’s better than what we have) and the woman is… I don’t know. She’s more like a trophy than a character.
I don’t know what to elaborate on, since it all comes down to that I find the characters and their actions dumb and unnatural.
Those all sound like incredibly natural, human flaws to me. Lust, jealousy and indecision (of course, that’s a huge simplification of the characters’ issues). I actually said something very similar to E Minor after the first ep about the main character being unlikeable, but, as he said then, gotta have a a character arc. I honestly don’t dislike Hazuki, anyway, he has some issues but there are some things I’ve got to respect about the guy. Atsushi and Hazuki are both starting to see each other’s point of view and that is what I’m most enjoying at the moment.
Welp, not much to discuss I suppose. I honestly see the show as a beacon of organic storytelling and really relateable, human characters in the ocean of shounen leads, tsunderes, bland harem protagonists and moe blobs that populate most shows, so if you find it dumb and unnatural I can really only say different strokes for different folks.
Campione:
A perfect opportunity for Godou to get the girl. He screws up. *sigh*
*scrolls down list* *sees Kuroko’s Basketball* *Spits out Yoo-Hoo* W-when did this get here?!?? *checks previous list* *can only remain silent*
Binbougami-Ga: Yeah. Japan must really still love Dragonball. At least the moments are funny.
Natsuyuki:
Like, get Atsushi the F out of Hazuki’s body?
This season only has three shows I’m really following with any earnestness, so I end up having to dip back into the previous season!
I’ve been following you blog for about three weeks now and I have to day these weekly power rankings are one of my favourite things. I’m not watching any current anime, so I can’t read peoples impressions or reviews, but I love your little summaries here. :)
I sometimes wonder if these summaries are just interesting to myself, but hey, thanks.
Gah, I hope you don’t mind those minor spelling errors. I’m mildly dyslectic and it comes out especially when I haven’t slept well (like today). :| Any ways, carry on. (I wish there was an edit feature for someone like me D: )
*your blog
*I have to say
I don’t get anal retentive about spelling or grammatical errors.
Fun fact: the ages of many of the Arcana Famgilia would-be haremettes were lowered (well, in the official show literature they were, but it was a change in number only, no effect on the characters ultimately) to make it less creepy. Of course, they also effectively reduced the pool of guys who actually had a chance at being a haremette by quite a bit, too, in order to cut the creep factor back.
Did the original story have a girl pretending to be a guy? Honestly, that would make the show a touch more interesting.
Not much to say here. Enjoyed the post as always. Re: Harem Hill, I’ve been enjoying them heartily and like to see them continue, but not if you’re over it and it becomes a chore.
Well, it’s going to be an hour of Imouto this week. Let’s see how that goes.
I’d like for you to continue Harem Hill. Yes I’m not watching any of the shows except Imouto, but your writing is entertaining and good (and those posts are funny).
