Feeling a bit under the weather at the moment. As a result, we’ll keep things simple this week.
Not ranked: Mushishi Zoku Shou, Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen, Gundam Build Fighters Try, Shirobako, Donten ni Warau
I haven’t dropped these shows. I just have some serious things to take care of in real life, so I’m going to tend to them first. Hopefully, everything will return to normal next week.
21. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
Still as disgusting as ever. My stomach churns every time I have to watch this fucked-up nonsense masquerading as a feel-good anime. It’s amazing how people will condone abuse just because the packaging looks nice.
20. Cross Ange
Raperaperaperaperape.
19. Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji
Still as misogynistic as ever.
18. Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete
You can go on and on about quantum mechanics and many-worlds theories all you want. Watching the same shit happen every other week is just not fun.
17. Trinity Seven
The characters look bored, the fanservice is repetitive, the world-building sucks… what more do I have to say?
16. Terra Formars
The story is going nowhere fast, and I’m over the premise. What more can you possibly do with it? Truth be told, this would have been better served as a quick and thrilling 90-minute action movie. It doesn’t have the staying power to work as an anime series. This is why you see these boring fights stretched out for episodes and episodes at a time.
15. Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
Again, nothing happens, but the characters here are slightly more charming than the ones in Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete.
14. Akame ga Kill!
The show only ever kills off insignificant characters. As a result, it’s hard to get too pumped up for any of the action. Choreography isn’t everything. If there’s no drama or purpose to a fight scene, it doesn’t matter if it looks cool. The fight scene still sucks. At this point, you’re just putting lipstick on a pig.
13. Grisaia no Kajitsu
Dramatically stupid and irresponsible.
12. Log Horizon 2
I’m starting to think I prefer Asuna’s lack of presence over Akatsuki’s whininess. It also doesn’t help that the latter looks like a grade schooler.
11. Sword Art Online II
So we spent three episodes on a cheap, plastic sword. That’s just fantastic.
10. Madan no Ou to Vanadis
What can I say? Madan no Ou to Vanadis had the least painful bad episode to get through this week.
9. Fate/stay night – Unlimited Blade Works
It’s boring again! What a surprise! Seeing its fervent fans leap to its defense, however, isn’t a surprise.
8. Amagi Brilliant Park
KyoAni gave us filler this week, and unlike others, the episode didn’t make me laugh. It just felt like a waste of time.
7. Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle
Bad animation and non-shocking revelations has Chaika on the cusp of being a bad anime.
6. Psycho-Pass 2
I normally prefer it when anime series aren’t too long. Most 2-cours shows hardly need that many episodes. At the same time, however, Psycho-Pass has always been heavy-handed. And perhaps the attempt to condense its themes and message into just three months worth of episode is finally biting the story in the ass.
5. Akatsuki no Yona
Pretty standard fare. The story’s a bit chauvinistic at times, but other than that, the anime doesn’t commit any particularly egregious mistakes.
4. Gundam: Reconguista in G
Although the anime has improved a bit, the shows below it simply didn’t do anything special. As a result, Reconguista in G pretty much rose by default.
3. Parasyte
Of course, I can’t say anything bad about the show. I just like Garo and Rage of Bahamut a tiny bit more. If I have one complaint, Parasyte doesn’t have enough body horror in it. It almost seems kind of fun to have a buddy like Migi around.
2. Garo: The Carved Seal
The show’s characters are vastly underrated.
1. Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis
After five weeks, I still haven’t found a single boring minute in this show. That’s amazing.
In other news, my posting schedule will very likely shift around a bit in the coming days. I’ll still be writing the same amount of posts each week — I hope — but the write-ups for some shows will be more delayed than others. As always, thanks for reading the blog.
Hope you feel better soon, your posts are enjoyable as always.
luv the posts one of the best anime blog spots out there
Hope you get better, I’ll be waiting for your posts.
Garos characters are not under rated. Good protagonist with out a antagonist is well nothing. I am watching the show because it simply aired on a season I am watching. No antagonist is killing it. The guy controlling the horrors is a scum bag but we rarely see him and still don’t know why he hates the knights. Garo is a 3-4 out of five right now where as a active antagonist would bump this right up to a 5.
Human nature is the story’s antagonist. Mendoza is just the scapegoat.
Agreed. Garo presents the battle on two fronts. Horrors are “easier” in that they are physically beatable. Human nature is a much more difficult, infinitely many-headed beast to grapple with. Makai knights get some satisfaction and peace from winning battles, but they’re nowhere close to ending the war.
Garo and Parasyte are my top top picks this season. Haven’t watched Bahamut yet.
Get well soon m8
Thanks to everyone who have kind words to say. I’ll still be posting. I just might not seem like myself for the next week or two.
Where did Inou Battle place? Or have you not seen it since it comes out on Wednesday for the next two weeks (including this one)?
Thank you for writing. I hope everything gets better.
Watching terrible anime one after another is taking its toll lol
anyway take care! :D
It didn’t rank in your list, but although Build Fighters Try hasn’t been as good the first series lately, I hope it’ll get back up again sooner rather than later.
G-Reco is still Tomino Tomino-ing.
