Like with a lot of other shows this season, I keep asking myself, “Well, what’s left?” Maki and Umi are together. Maki unburdened himself to his parents. So now what? Yeah, the couple can start dating, but with two or so episodes left, is there anything to see?
— Damn, y’all can’t afford a coffee table?
— Shy about touching your girlfriend’s biceps — it can only be anime.
— Umi insists on walking home alone because she wants to bask in the afterglow (of finally bagging Maki). I still wouldn’t risk it. Man, I need to stop watching vids about mysterious disappearances. Just making me paranoid. Ever hear that story of someone breaking into a Japanese home and murdering the entire family? See, now I insist on living in a skyscraper. Harder to break in through a window if you’re at least ten floors up!
— Maki gets a fever, and all of a sudden, his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s mom are at the door. Apparently, she gave them a key to the apartment as soon as Maki and Umi became official. Geez, mom, what are you in a rush for? In any case, I guess this answers my “Well, what’s left?” question from up top. Big opportunity for Umi to stay over and make congee. Classic romance scene. People never get tired of a character taking care of their loved ones. I just wish they’d mix it up a little. I guess adding Umi’s mom Sora to the mix is a slight tweak on the formula. Maki is also staying over at their household instead of being alone by himself.
— To be fair, 39.6C is pretty bad. In freedom degrees, that’s a little over 103. Yeah, Maki definitely should go see the doctor especially because he lives in a totally oppressive, totally unfree country that forces (relatively) cheap healthcare on him! No, I’m not bitter at all. My country has way better things to spend our money on, like blowing up a country then paying them to fix what we did. That’s how you win.
— This isn’t a good look for his mom, though. We recently learned that she doesn’t have to work as hard as she does. She only pushes for all those hours in order to cope with the divorce, but this leads to her inadvertently (or perhaps it isn’t so inadvertent) neglecting her son. And now she can’t even be around to care for him when he’s running such a high fever? This is shortly after he had a semi-crash-out with both his parents, too. Eh… you think she’d be a little more sensitive to his needs in that case.
— I’m dubious about it being a mere common cold, though. I’ve never seen a common cold be this bad. Maybe it’s mono and we can pin the blame on Umi.

— Maki is seriously scolding himself for getting sick so shortly after being official with Umi. Ah yes, like you can control getting the common cold.
— So dramatic. You got sick. Chill. Also, I would avoid hugging people if I was sick. Just sayin’.
— Shoulda thought of this before you hugged your gross ass germs all over her.
— There’s the classic congee! Looks a lil’ plain, though. Girl, throw some green onions in there or something.
— Really? Maki’s father is going to play the overprotective dad now of all times? Do you really think teens are going to bang when one of them is bedridden with a high fever? Well, his wife pretty much tells him the same thing.
— This dialogue is borderline “The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten” levels of vomit-inducing.
— Anime always rush things. They just started dating, but everyone already acts like the two kids are soulmates for life. The way Sora talks about Maki, he might as well be her son-in-law already. Geez, calm down. Smell the roses. Enjoy life. There’s no hurry to get to the finish line.
— Let’s all huddle around the sick guy and make a ton of noise.
— It’s New Year’s, and like always, the girls put in all the effort to get dressed up. On the other hand, the boys — the one boy in our case — slum it in casual wear. Seriously, the last time I saw a male anime character get dressed up for these festivals was freaking Yusuke from Persona 5.
— And that’s that. Just a lowkey, stress-free slice-of-life episode. A bit sleep-inducing for me, personally. Not much to say about it, but on the plus side, I didn’t have to waste too much time writing up this post either.
— There’s another episode, right? If so, I guess we’ll ask the same question again: what’s left?
