May I Ask for One Final Thing? Ep. 5: No exceptions for royalty

I don’t know why Julius has to be like this. When Scarlet’s besties were talking about the prospects of getting married one day, she instantly thought of him. Basically, he all but has Scarlet’s heart in his hands. He could seal the deal right now. All he has to do is stop being a troll. But the troublesome prince couldn’t resist himself. I suppose it’s just his nature. Like how Scarlet can’t stop clobbering people, Julius can’t stop riling her up. Maybe it’s even deeper than that. Maybe Julius’s afraid that commitment would make their relationship boring — that them being lovey-dovey would make her less interesting. Well, heavens forbid, we can’t let the prince be bored! But seriously, when you think about it, he’s another spoiled prince like his brother. Julius is certainly not nasty and cruel like Kyle, so at least he has that going for him. This guy has obviously never been put in his place. So if Scarlet does sock him at the start of next week’s episode, I can’t even be mad. He deserves it. Naturally, I’d personally punch him for different reasons. Remember folks, no kings.

My Awkward Senpai Ep. 4: Just a casual business trip

Kannawa and Kamegawa are on a business trip, so we get all the familiar tropes. For instance, we make the classic blunder of reserving only one room for the two young, attractive professionals! Oh, what are we to do! We can’t possibly share a room together (even though it has two twin beds)! That would be so inappropriate! Unless… well, if this had been a hentai, I’m sure Kannawa and Kamegawa would be banging like rabbits, declare their love for each other, and have babies after. Make the late Shinzo Abe proud, kids! But this isn’t a hentai, so they stay up gaming all night instead. To her credit, Kannawa does get Kamegawa to stick around. He initially was planning to slum it overnight at a manga cafe instead. Why him and not Kannawa? I dunno, senpai privilege?

Dusk Beyond the End of the World Ep. 4: Great, a double date

The cold opening tells us nothing we don’t already know: Yugure understands perfectly what a marriage is, she’s devoted to Akira and Akira only, and she loves the fact that he’s loyal to the one he loves even though it’s not her. Nevertheless, Yugure goes on a date with Kalcrom just to make Akira jealous. Before anyone else can properly react, Fides also shows up to drag Akira on a date as well. Yay, we have ourselves a double date. Aren’t you excited? I’m totally am. In the end, Yugure ends up being more jealous of Fides than Akira is of Kalcrom. To top it all off, they even allow Amoru to tag along. Sigh, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I was looking forward to a post-apocalyptic story about AI and androids.

The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess Ep. 3: Iana and her big, dumb mouth

These days, the sisters have been getting along swimmingly. After all, real Konoha is so enamored with her ideal self that it’s almost embarrassing. So far, it doesn’t seem as though ideal Konoha has any flaws whatsoever. She’s infinitely nice and infinitely forgiving. She’d probably be infinitely powerful as well if she was allowed to awaken to her powers in this timeline. Basically, real Konoha wrote a Mary Sue character. But that’s understandable, because so far, we’ve only seen flashbacks of real Konoha as a child. I don’t expect a kid to write an interesting, nuanced character. I can’t help but wonder, then, if ideal Konoha will ever change and evolve. As we keep tracing a path through real Konoha’s fiction, will ideal Konoha reflect the former’s growth as a writer? Will ideal Konoha suddenly become more than this two-dimensional Mary Sue that we see before us? After all, the boytoys in the story are evolving in their own way — sorta.
